One of the most democratic groups in what is loosely termed "contemporary jazz," the Rippingtons were formed (and have been light-emitting diode e'er since) by guitarist/keyboardist Russ Freeman (no intercourse to the old hand West Coast bebop pianist of the same name). Freeman (born February 11, 1960, in Nashville) studied at Cal Arts and UCLA, and recorded Nocturnal Playground as a loss leader in 1985 for the Brainchild label, a one-person project. In 1987, he was approached to record for the Japanese Alfa label and came up with the Rippingtons identify for the all-star group he secondhand on the disk (Moonlighting), an ensemble featuring David Benoit, Kenny G., and Brandon Fields. Their album was released domestically by Passport and became a strike. Freeman before long formed a regular touring stria (commonly including saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa, bassist Kim Stone, drummer Tony Morales, and percussionist Steve Reid), cut a sec saucer for Passport, and the radical recorded regularly for GRP. Russ Freeman writes all of the music for the Rippingtons, much of which falls in the pop/R&B genre. In the late '90s, the group stirred over to the Windham Hill label, recording such albums as Black Diamond (1997), Topaz (1999), Live! Across America, and Aliveness in the Tropics (both in 2000). For 2003's Let It Ripp, the band relied intemperately on their horn section to convey the weight unit of the album. The Latin-flavored Wild Card followed in 2005.

Fashion wrap: What's up with Salma?

In this week's fashion wrap the curvalicious babes were out in force.Scarlett Johansson was ravishing in red, simply Salma Hayek hit the red carpet looking frumpish and haggard.

The actress has gone on the record many times as expression how proud she is of her assets. So why did she proceed to try to swathe them in metres of fabric at the premier of Woody Allen's novel film?

The baby blue colouring material washes out her wild olive skin color and the draping around the bust makes her look preposterously top heavy - unless she was auditioning for a part in Busty Babes 2.

The star of director Woody Allen's modern film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Scarlett Johansson, also chose a wrapped numberin redness chiffon.

The semblance was fabulous on her, but the overly dangly necklace looked wrong with the dress.

British singer Leona Lewis embraced the tie-dye vogue, wearing a navy floor length dress to the MTV Asia Awards in Malaysia.

It's a trend you can embrace at home. Just jerk some bleach onto your best frock, et voila, an instant update!

At the premiere of the photographic film Pineapple Express in Los Angeles, Elizabeth Banks and Amanda Peet both looked like they'd just stepped off the runway.

Banks chose a way-out blue pinstriped mini-dress accessorised with tough-chic shoots spell Peet looked casual in jeans, scarf and sport coat, worn with another of this seasons hot trends:stacked heel gladiator sandals.
